Ruthless, devious, and ambitious, Lucius Mercio has elevated the Serengeti Group to the third wealthiest cartel in the Twelve Systems, cementing his place among the twelve most powerful members of the ruling warrior class. With Lucius’ rise, his enemies increase in both number and subtlety. Few will dare to attack Lucius directly, instead they will move in secret, targeting the most vulnerable aspects of his empire including his disgraced and reviled apprentice, Lilian. As Lilian begins the third and final year of her trial by ordeal, she is more determined than ever to survive and repay Lucius’ protection and trust with loyalty and diligence. Expecting only the meager assignments reserved for apprentices, Lilian was stunned to receive the conservatorship of a valuable Vistrite Crevasse—an honor reserved for proven and trusted warriors. When a lethal disaster strikes Desperation Mine and Refinery and imperils Lilian’s conservatorship, hidden adversaries seize the opportunity to plot the downfall of Serengeti.

"What can I say? I bought it 2/19/18 and finished it about 5-6 hours later! Once again, our intrepid author continues her in-depth and revealing look into Lilian's overwhelming burden to prove her worth and protect herself and her family. Not to mention her relationship with Lucius...which is truly blossoming into something and it scares her. PLUS, "M' Lord's" continuing attempts to keep her as safe as he can, while juggling his cartel responsibilities and dealing with his sick wife. Can't really say much more without telling the whole story, so, JUST READ THE DAM_ BOOK, WILL YA?!?!?! LOL! It is the best yet and it will be hard to wait for another year for the next one, but wait I shall! Hurry up, EG, please????"

Serengeti Valor The Apprentice Volume 5 The Twelve Systems Chronicles EG Manetti 9780999737118 Books Reviews
- This 5th installment of the Twelve Systems Chronicles is as carefully plotted and scripted and characterized as the others. What E.G. Manetti does differently in this one is give us an extended battle scene that rivals a stellar war movie. There is strategy and inexperience and suspense and brutality and death. We have not seen this yet in this fantasy world in space, although there have been references to a violent and war filled past. Clever as ever, apprentice and conservator Lilian is intent on protecting the interests and property of Miord. The book starts with an uncalled for "correction" that is more subterfuge than infraction, despite the fact that Lilian is injured yet again. However, the recovery is quick, and is it weird that I missed the plagued apprentice of books past? Someone was always plotting against her, but Lilian has matured and garnered her own cadre of supporters and respect. The villains this time did not feel so personal.
Do not fret, however, the villains in Serengeti Valor have layers upon layers. Expect to devote your full attention to the plotting, because you will need to. Also pay attention to the kernels that Manetti continues to spread out before the reader, because they offer a prescience for foes in the future. I know it.
In many ways this book is a bridge. We see a more mature and confident Lilian, a less careful Milord, a worsening Estella, continuing developments for Vistrite and Bright Star. There are hints of personal battles to come as both Milord and Lilian struggle to hide their regard for one another. I don't think they are so careful as they believe and others see. It bodes ill for them, but I have every confidence the possessive and protective head of Serengeti and his very, very clever apprentice will prevail. After the conclusion of this book, I am not sure what else Lilian can do to prove her accumen for commerce or her bravery and integrity. But there are a lot of irons in the fire for Blooded Dagger and Serengeti. Milord's ambitions will still prove dangerous to Lilian. I know it.
This series is highly recommended for sci-fi fans and those futuristic fantasy lovers who appreciate complex societies in their world building. These books are not quickly consumed; they are to be savored. Perfection visits those who serve patience, yet I am already anxiously anticipating the next installment. It will be great. I know it. - No Spoilers.
Do you know that feeling you get when you finish an excellent book and you feel a bit empty and alone? You’ve left the fiction world created by the author by the author and you know you can never, ever experience it again for the first time? You want another serving, but any follow-up book is off in the future? While it isn’t exactly sub-drop, the essence is similar Pleasure/pain (from finishing too quickly) that sweeps you away from the present, only to so slowly recede when it stops?
Or, perhaps for you it is the urge you get to immediately – I mean, right NOW! – purchase the next book in the series or another book by the same author?
These were my feelings finishing Serengeti Valor The Apprentice, Vol. 5.
What you need to know
1. The Premise “To avoid execution for her father’s crimes, Lilian embraced her once chance at survival and became the apprentice of the powerful warrior Lucius Mercio. In return for Lucius’ protection, Lilian yielded total control of her body, intellect, and will.
2. POV 3rd person. The genres Slice in Woman with Agency/Adventure / Romance + Erotic / Sci-Fi/Action Heroine/Thriller.
3. Each book in the Twelve Systems Chronicles series is a well done standalone (no cliffhanger), but not the complete story – it is a series and this is book 5.
4. DO NOT START THE SERIES WITH THIS BOOK. Ms. Manetti has done an amazing amount of world building, and the reader needs to begin with book one The Cartel The Apprentice Volume 1 While she nicely avoids the common series trap for authors of regurgitating too much back story in each successive book, you will want them as the protagonists change / grow / live over time. My one criticism is that there are lots competing entities wrapped in multiple, overlapping amalgams AND configurations. I wish Ms. Manetti had simplified them just a bit somehow. (I'm not an author; I don't know how she would do this.)
5. Erotic content. These Twelve System Chronicles books are not erotica by the definition that means a book with lots of smexy parts linked by a loose plot. Yes, Lilian and Lucius do totally explore each other with lips and tongues and fingers to fulfillment, as if you were experiencing what Lilian experiences (and to a smaller extent, from Lucius’ perspective, too.) By the way, Serengeti has be best - the most enjoyable for me - sexy scenes of all 5 books. Your briefs or panties may get different wear and tear.
One more thing about my impression of Serengeti.. You know when you get to the end of a book and know you will reread it again, even if it is no longer your “first?†Well, just as I have read the first 4 books twice, I’m sure I will read Serengeti again.
Disclaimer I purchased the book. I wasn't asked to review it. - 10 billion stars. Awesome. I absolutely love this series.
In this episode Lillian starts of in a bad place. An accident at Desperation has her almost forfeiting her bond. The investigation that follows uncovers a major intrigue which culminates in a an extended battle scene.
The relationship between Lucius and Lillian is progressing although both parties are in denial regarding the feelings. It does dawn on Lucius that his terror for Lillian's safety (during the battle) is equal to his terror of the the Lady Estella's illness. I think that Lady Estella will pass away around the same time that Lillian completes her bond ( if nothing major happens to prevent that).
My only gripe is that it will be a year before I can read the next installment which will see the Hull launch on Fortuna. - What can I say? I bought it 2/19/18 and finished it about 5-6 hours later! Once again, our intrepid author continues her in-depth and revealing look into Lilian's overwhelming burden to prove her worth and protect herself and her family. Not to mention her relationship with Lucius...which is truly blossoming into something and it scares her.
