Deceiving the Highlander Highland Bodyguards Book 10 edition by Emma Prince Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
- The latest story in the Highland Bodyguards is Scottish Historical romance at it's best! Emma Prince has outdone herself again with this fast paced exciting and emotional tale during the time of Robert the Bruce. She incorporates the history and characters seamlessly and takes you on a fantastic journey not soon forgotten!
Will Sinclair, a member of the Bruce's Bodyguard Corps, consider's himself not at his best due to having lost his eye when he was betrayed. But he is sent on a mission to the English court to find one of his spies, Eleanor de Monteney, who has been out of contact. The concern is either she has been found out or worse, she could have turned on them since she is an Englishwoman. If that is the case, there is only one outcome Will will have to carry out.
Eleanor cannot believe it when a large one eyed highlander shows up claiming to be her fiance'. What? Her parents had supposedly arranged the union and she plays along. So Will gets close to her and the tension spikes to pull off their charade with his focus to find out what is really happening with her. Why has she not sent a message to the Bruce as usual?
The attraction is there, but who to trust, how to pull off this deception with the Queen so close and all of the political intrigue at every corner?
A masterfully written story that will remain one of my favorites. I am sad this is the end of this series, but fear not! There are more amazing stories to come from this author, I have no doubt!! ( Please hurry!) - I have all the Bodyguard series and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The history brought to life and romance and love put into the mix. I like the disruptions of the people and castles, the good and the bad portrayed about the endless wars and fighting for power and control.
I was glad to read about the lack of leadership the King had , with favorites taking center stage so much of the time, I was dismayed to learn the Sudan's children were taken away from her as a power move and to control her. The finances and blossoming love stories were touching with the ups and downs of relationships.
I recommend reading this book whether or not you have read any off the others, you will be glad you did.
I believe I have read all of this author's books, enjoying every I one of them. - I did enjoy this story, but there wasn't as much excitement as some of the others of the series. I am not a fan of deception/secrets that last most of the story. Even if the reason seems reasonable, the trust issue is always in the forefront. Which is hard for romance to take place, when there is always something between them - secrets.
I enjoy how the author intertwines fiction with history. The author gives a lot of information at the end, which was informative and reminded me of much I'd forgotten.
There is lovemaking, outside of marriage, rated maybe 3 out of 5. We have twists, suspense and bumpy road to HEA. No cheating and no cliffhanger. There is a wonderful epilogue at the end that was heartfelt and brought h/H from past books. As I stated in my subject line, this is a stand alone and I would recommend it. (ljb) - This is the 10th entry in the "Highland Bodyguards" series. Each book can stand alone, but I recommend reading them all!
I was glad to see Will Sinclair find his happy ever after and to find peace with his injury/disability (and the man that caused it).
I love how Ms. Prince weaves her characters in and throughout actual historical events. - I was glad to read Will’s story. It had been quite a while since I read a Highland Bodyguard book, but I clearly remembered Will and how he lost his eye. The whole Bodyguard series is very entertaining although this, book 10, was a little less gripping than some of the others as I recall. However, it was still an adventure with endearing characters and an exciting plot.
- The last of The Bodyguard series is just as awesome as the first book. You will be engrossed see what happens next . I have enjoyed the whole series and recommend you to read them all. 😇
- After reading all of them, I would say it is one of the best in this series of highland stories. I am sorry the Bodyguard Corps has to end. Definitely worth the time and money to read. ðŸ‘
- I have learned so much about history reading her books. Even though they are wonderful Scottish historical reads, they intertwine so much realistic history. Always a 5 start read.
